Let's Save The Animals and Mother Nature

GRASS

Grasses are one of the most common plants in the world. They are tough and can grow almost anywhere, from the freezing Arctic Tundra to the hot, dry plains of Africa and South Africa and South America. There are many kinds of grass. Rice, wheat, corn, and barley are all grasses and important foods for people and for most afrm animals.

There are huge areas of grassland on evry continent except Antartica. Most are flat plains where little rain falls. There are two main types. Temperate grasslands are called pariries in some areas and pampas, or steppes, in other places. Tropical grasslands are known as savannahs.

Savannahs are covered with clumps of tall grasses, scattered trees, and bushes. They are full of animal life. Meat-eating predators hunt the large plant-eating mammals that graze. Flocks of birds feed on insects and on the fruits and seeds of savannah plants.

Animals that lives on Grasslands

>Ostrich are grassland birds that cannot fly. They rely on their powerful legs to run from danger.

>Zebras and wildebeests roam the African savannah. They are haunted by lions, leopards, hyenas.

>Weaver birds their hanging nests using grass and twigs.

Grassland alert

In some areas, grasslands are being taken over for farming, making life hard for animals that live there. If land is plowed or grazed too often, the grasses die, and the soil is quikly washed or blown away.
