MONKEY

There are about 200 different kinds of monkeys and they are all mammals. Most live in the forest of Africa, Asia, or central and South America. They have long arms ang legs for leaping and swinging through the trees. They use their ahnds, feet and long tails to grip the branches and help them balance. Some of those are live on the ground have shorter tails. Monkeys feed on leaves, fruit, flowers, roots, small animals, or eggs.

>Most monkeys have one baby at a time. A young baboon travels about by clinging to its mothers fur, until it is old enough to get around along.

>A spider monkey swings from branch to branch using its long tailas an extra arm.

>many monkeys call out when an enemy comes close, to let other monkeys know they maybe in danger.

 

Danger calls

Monkeys "talk" to each other in different ways. Some make signals with their hands, or make faces. Vervet monkeys have an special kind of screech to warn others that an eagle is near. When they hear the call, the monkeys drop to the ground. Another king of screech means "leopard". this sends the monkeys running to the trees.

The Apes

A closely related group of animals, called apes, includes chimpanzees, gibbons, gorillas, and orang-utans. Apes are a lot like monkeys except that they have no tail and are often bigger and more intelligent.
